Fixed issue with certain video cards not posting video when installed in the PCI slot of the C/Dock II. 2. Fixed the problem in which the system would reboot intermittently on a resume from suspend. 3. Turned off power to the internal media bay if no device is present to prevent power downs or system hangs when a module is inserted during an "Informed Hot" swap or insert using Softex Docking Services or Baymanager. ************************************************************************* Note: If the user does not upgrade to this BIOS version, only "warm" swaps/inserts of modules should be performed. The following are Dell Definitions for the types of swaps/inserts and the support level fo each. Hot (Not supported as Uninformed): This means the overall system does not need to be placed into a suspend or powered-down state to allow the function to be performed. Warm (Not recommended as Uninformed): This means the overall system needs to be placed into a suspend state to allow the function to be performed. Cold: This means the overall system needs to be powered-down to allow the function to be performed. Informed: This means the application, OS, and BIOS (in this instance) are notified by the user before the function is performed. Hot operations, particularly when a device is removed, should use this method. This allows the software layers time to validate the operation and perform any clean up and hardware adjustments that may be necessary. Many Warm operations do not require this because of the system state; however it would certainly be the recommended method. Uninformed: Much like it sounds, it means the operation is performed without the knowledge of or permission from the OS, application, or BIOS. This will typically cause device failures or hangs. Some systems will allow this type of operation when it is used to add a device (like our Hot docking). Some systems also appear to allow this because the hardware is modified in such a way that it notifies the OS, application, and BIOS when a device is being added or removed. This is not a robust solution, and is not a widely accepted practice in the industry. ************************************************************************** 4. Fixed issue in which the system would spontaneously power up when cold inserted to a C/Dock or C/Port without pressing the power button. 5. Fixed issue in which the maximum CPU speed was incorrectly reported under Open Manage Client (OMC) software. 6. Fixed the 3Com network interface chip (NIC) issue in which the system would hang during a warm reboot from an unattended installation while attached to a Latitude dock. 7. Fixed a problem where BIOS text screens (Password, Save-to-Disk, etc.) displayed garbage when more than 256Mb of memory was installed. 8. Fixed issue in which the system would fail to resume from a Save-to-Disk (S2D) with more than 272MB of RAM installed. 9. Fixed the problem where hard drives smaller than 528Mb would show up in System Setup as "None". 10. Fixed issue in which the system hangs when accessing a hard drive after resuming from a Suspend-to-RAM (S2R). 11. Fixed issue in which the system would not suspend when IR is enabled. Enhancements: 1. Added support to allow a user the choice to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is attached, or allow "simultaneous" use of the touchpad and external mouse. This option is labeled as "Pointing Device" on page two of System Setup . ************************************************************************** Note: If the user returns to a previous BIOS version, the "Pointing Device" option in System Setup may be set to "Serial". In this condition the mouse will appear to be inoperative unless a serial mouse is attached. To enable the touchpad or PS/2 mouse enter System Setup and set the "Pointing Device" option to "Touchpad-PS/2 mouse". ************************************************************************** 2. Changed the help text for Power Management in System Setup. When Power Management is disabled for AC or Battery, the associated time-outs are blanked from view. 3. Added support for System Setup entry by pressing while at the Dell splash screen during boot. 4. Added advanced Intel CPU throttling state support for Windows 9x (APM only). 5. Added a System Setup feature to enable/disable Num Lock (external PS/2 keyboard) at boot. This is labeled as "Num Lock" on page two of System Setup . 6. Decreased the overall BIOS sized to avoid "To big to fit" error during flash. This removes the restriction of needing a DOS 6.22 boot diskette to flash the BIOS. The BIOS release has been validated on the following operating systems: 1. Microsoft Windows 95 v4.00.950A 2. Microsoft Windows 95 v4.00.950B 3. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP3 4. Fixed issue in which the Olicom Token Ring PCI card does not work when a CD-ROM module is installed in the Latitude C/Dock Bay. 2. Fixed Windows NT 4.0 unattended install hang when docked with the C/Dock. 3. Reduced noise in video controller to address ghosting on an external video projector. 4. Fixed System hang when Floppy drive (FDD) is accessed when no FDD is installed in the system and the Boot Sequence in System Setup is set to: Internal HDD, None, None. 5. Fixed issue in which adjusting Power Management (PM) settings in System Setup results in a hang when the system is docked to a Latitude C/Dock that has an Olicom Token Ring Card in the PCI slot and a CD-ROM installed in the media bay of the C/Dock. 6. Addressed sound stutter on resume under Windows NT 4.0. 7. Fixed issue in which the sound mute setting is not restored properly under Windows 9x after a suspend/resume while playing .WAV files. 8. Fixed a system hang associated with using a specific network sniffer program when the system temperature is cold. 9. Fixed intermittent issue with CD-eject via when the CD-ROM is in the C/Dock Bay. 10. Fixed issue in which a device in the C/Dock Bay is not displayed in System Setup when a PCI card is installed in the C/Dock. 11. Addressed issue in which the system would not power up from battery without AC, when the reserve battery (CMOS battery) is dead or removed, and no other power has been present. 12. Fixed issue in which the Service tag is not displayed at the password prompt screen. 13. Fixed issue in which the Service Tag is not displayed when using ASSET.COM to set/change the asset or owner tags. 14. Fixed error in which if an incorrect HDD password was entered the first time, during a Resume from RAM (RFR), subsequent password entries would fail to unlock the HDD. 15. The BIOS build date will be the default for time/date if the reserve battery dies and the Real Time Clock (RTC) valid data is lost. 17. Fixed bug in which the CPU type was misreported using Open Manage Client Workstation v4.x. 18. Fix issue in which the sound would be sent to the C/Dock speakers instead of attached headphones. 19. Fixed issue in which the CD-ROM drive module would not be detected in the Operating System (OS) when in the C/Dock media bay with a PCI card installed. Enhancements: 1. DCC to allow use of new Lid Close Power Management settings. 3. Added functionality for Windows 2000 Beta 2 and 3 (ACPI only) 4. Support added for 10GB HDDs A. Note: Requires version 3.6.3 of MKS2D/RMS2D for Save-to-Disk (S2D) partition B. Requires new partition scheme to support S2D (described in the new README.S2D file withe v3.6.3) 5. Added System Setup feature to allow the onboard Ethernet controller in the C/Dock or C/Port to be disabled (Docking Ethernet). 6. Support for DVD-ROM drives added. A. Capability to boot CD/DVD media (when in system module bay only) B. Modular and C/Dock bay status fields added to System Setup C. Same eject capability as a CD-ROM () 7. Video BIOS upgraded to 2.00.15 Thermal Enhancements: The Latitude CPi utilizes an automatic thermal management system that uses a two-speed fan and microprocessor speed changes to keep the system running at the optimum temperature. 1. Added new thermal control which is activated when the Latitude CPi is docked and the following conditions are met: A. The system is running on AC power, and B. Smart CPU is Enabled in System Setup This new thermal control provides the most efficient thermal management when docked. 2. Lowered all thermal event trip points when system is undocked and on AC. This change allows thermal management events (two-speed fan and microprocessor speed changes) to occur earlier than in previous BIOS versions and will effectively lower CPU temperature sooner.
